When your Abundance talks

Did you know your heart was created for an overflow of an abundance and that you chose what this overflow is going to be in your heart?

“Brood of vipers!  How can you, being evil, speak good things?  For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.         Matthew 12:34

I have heard this scripture my entire life growing up, however, I have heard it this way “out of the heart the mouth speaks” which actually is not entirely the same scripture, but I understand why many Christians or churches use this references because it is actually easier to say.  But in saying it like this we are leaving out the key to what Jesus was talking about here, and it is important that we do not change or edit any word of God, as He warns us in Revelations 22:18-19.   There are reasons that the Bible states certain things and we must ensure we are keeping all those words accurate and not skipping over them and here is why!

If this scripture were to just state out of the heart the mouth speaks and not out of the “abundance” of the heart the mouth speaks.   We would miss what God is implying when it comes to our hearts.   When we look at the word abundance this literally means “an overflow, of pouring over or out”.   So in other words, something has to be filled to the top and overflowing for there to be abundance.  You cannot have abundance if let’s say your bucket of water was only halfway full, this is not an abundance.   However, if you were to keep your bucket under a faucet and let it continue to run and not shut it off, it would overflow and cause an abundance of water in your bucket, so much so, that it overflows and spills out.

I know that many times I like to lie to myself and believe that there are moments in frustration that I speak things out of my mouth, but will deny that those things are in my heart because at that time I was angry when I said those things, and I did not mean really mean what I said.  And I am sure you all have been here as well in these moments when we actually kind of regret what was said because we said things in the heat of the moment and would not have normally said things like that.   And I would like to think that those things are not in my heart I mean after all I am a child of God, and I like to tell myself that most of what comes out of my mouth are good uplifting things that give glory to God… but sometimes I must say with a humble heart that is not the case all the time.

The words that come out of my mouth are not what I am looking at, it is what’s behind the words.   My problem is not so much the words I spoke, for they are just a by-product of what is in my heart. What is important to really consider is what is in my heart that would cause such a thing to come out of my mouth when we are called to imitate Christ?

See God designed our hearts to become a vessel that overflows, he created our hearts to be able to contain an overflow… Did you hear that? GOD CREATED OUR HEARTS TO WITHSTAND THE OVERFLOW!  However, the overflow God intended us to have in our hearts was to be His overflow of Him, His love, His peace, His thoughts and be in the likeness of Him.  I will not go into detail about how our hearts begin to be filled with the things that are not of God because we all are pretty aware of how this happens in our lives!

But what I will say is this “Your heart is filled with those things which you covet” If you covet God and His word and your relationship with Him, then those are the things that will flow abundantly out of your mouth and you will bear fruit in abundance.  We are even told:

To be imitators of God as dear children and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for the saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. Ephesians 5:1-4

(I LOVE the sweet-smelling aroma part, I ask God almost daily, that in all I do may it be a sweet-smelling aroma to Him)  I will say that Ephesians is one of my favorite letter of Paul’s and I do urge you to just read this entire letter and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through it, it is so amazing and so pure of Gods love for us!  Okay sorry got sidetracked!

We are called to be imitators of God, and how we do this is through the abundance of Him in our hearts, this overflowing will flow onto those around us and be evident by what comes out of our mouths, thus becoming our actions which bear fruit in our lives.

“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”   John 15:8

What is interesting is that the verse John 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”  I had just talked about this in my blog post Praying when I feel like sleeping  so it I think it is awesome how they both kind of collide!  What is interesting is that we are to abide in Christ, and His word abide in us, so much so that it is overflowing and bearing much fruit.  By doing this God is glorified because we will bear much fruit and we will be Jesus’ disciples, which is honestly all of our hearts desires is it not! And how do we bear fruit? By abiding in Him in Abundance!  Matthew 5:16 says “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”  This my friends are called an overflow when the light shines so bright that others see it and give glory to God because the source of our abundance is the light of Jesus!

Again in John 8:31 Jesus said: “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.”    Abide means to stay or to remain, so when we hear that God is telling us to stay or remain in Him and because Jesus is the word made flesh this means that we are to abide in the word of God.  Jesus is clearly telling us “Remain in My word, because you are my disciples and children of God”  There are very important reasons to why He tells us this, if we seek to have an abundance so much that it overflows, we must remain in the word of God and in doing this we remain in Him.

When we begin to obey what God is telling us all throughout this word about abiding in Him and bearing good fruit this will cause an overflow of abundance in your heart.  And you will begin to be imitators of God in your lives because you will be so full of God and remain in Him that it will cause an overflow.

If you are asking or questioning the things that come out of your mouth because they do not give honor and glory to God, then just ask God to show you your heart and I guarantee you He will! He will not hold back from you, but please keep in mind that when He shows you the ugly in your heart, be humble enough to accept that this is what you have been holding onto in your heart, accept it with a humble heart knowing that God in all his glory and grace can wipe you clean and heal those areas in your heart and make you new again.  So although there may be areas in your heart that God reveals to you that literally make your stomach turn, because you did not ever think that those things were in your heart (trust me I have been there a lot this year!) Just know that we are broken and damaged so do not be surprised when He shows you things that hurt or even cause you to be ashamed.  Because He is going to take those things from your heart and fill it with an abundance of His love and mercy!  God is so good at making beauty from ashes.

I continue to pray a prayer again almost every time I am talking with our Father that is one of my favorites, and I have experienced this scripture come to life in my heart and God has revealed things in my heart that I have been so ashamed by and repulsed by.  And it is a couple day’s of remorse for myself and thoughts of thinking, no that is not me it can’t be.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties, and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”                      Psalm 139:23-24

But it is, and it is God showing me things in my heart that are unclean because I ask Him to do this all the time in my relationship with Him.  And for me when He shows me areas of my heart that do not imitate Him, let me tell you it is not just Him telling me what areas of my heart that need to be cleansed and I say “cool God, let’s get that outta my heart today”.  Oh no, that would be easy!  Instead, I begin to have the vail removed from my own eyes to see the plank in my heart, God begins to show me how I am acting or things I am saying and as I said, sometimes when I am able to see my heart I am ashamed and so humble after that.   And at that moment I have a choice where I can either acknowledge my actions and words coming out of my mouth, or I can ignore them and justify my actions and words because of a situation I had just endured.   So please keep in mind that God is all for cleansing your heart to resemble who He is, but you play a big role in the deep clean, my friend!

When you see your actions or hear your words and know that they do not imitate God, then that is your chance to begin a heart cleanse in you that God may be trying to show you.   I have also found that what helps me keep my heart filled with the abundance of Him is honestly just as the word of God says, to remain in His word.  Much like weight loss, there is no quick pill or quick diet fad that will help you lose weight fast, trust me I have tried!   Our relationship with God is the same way, our abundance in our hearts that we seek to have an overflow and bearing good fruit is the exact same way!  We must do the work, and that means reading the word of God to give us the strength we need every day so that when actions or words arise, we can bring those thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Christ and know exactly how to do this and know what this means.    And without remaining in the word, you are not filling up your heart in abundance but rather probably filling it up with other things that take up your time.  (When I say remain in the word of God, I do mean reading the word of God.  But also devoting your time to the relationship you have with God and seeking His face)

My dear friends, I am finding that I am writing more and more then I should be and I apologize.  I will leave you with yet another one of my favorite scriptures (okay fine, they are all my favorites, it’s so hard to choose!)

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.    2 Corinthians 10:3-6

There are many areas of my heart that truly need to be cleansed, and sometimes I get so sick and tired of being a certain way or saying certain things that I wish God would just rip it right out of my heart so that I no longer have to know that I am a certain way in my heart, because it disgusts me.  But in the end, it is truly up to us how long we will allow some ugly in our hearts isn’t it, I mean, after all, we are the ones that have to recognize it and go before God.   So I pray that I would be able to recognize the unclean areas of my heart so that I can lay them at the throne of God and allow Him to heal me.   Please keep me in your prayers so that the only thing I covet in life is God and my time with him because in this I will then give myself in love to everyone out of the abundance of my heart.

With love and great blessings to you all,

Kingdom Daughter
