The Source of your inheritance for Spiritual Warfare

“You were given an inheritance by Jesus Christ as a weapon in prayer for warfare”

When it comes to praying into the kingdom of God and praying in Spirit, you must know how to first harness and use the weapons of warfare that God has given you. This type of prayer is powerful and moves mountains & dominions of the enemy.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.                             John 14:12-14

When we are in warfare of any kind, it is not our power that wins the victory or breaks the walls down of the enemy, it is all in the sweet, powerful name of Jesus Christ.

"Being a child of God, we bear a family resemblance to the Father and to the household of faith... A praying child of God is a constant threat to the stability of Satan's government."  - A.W. Tozer

It is through this name alone that be highly exalted and above every name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 1:10-11

In the scripture above, it does not state “If you ask anything in My name, it will happen.”…  Nope; it clearly states if you ask anything in My name “I WILL DO IT”.  When we are in warfare there is nothing that we can do at all to fight this warfare apart from Jesus doing it for us.

Scripture says in John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches.  He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do NOTHING.”

We must understand that all the power and resources of our inheritance are in Jesus Christ, for without Him we can do nothing.

Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh (that’s us!), God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh (there’s us again!), on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh.  In doing this, He took power and dominion over sin and death and has given to us freely all things (1 Cor 2:12, Matt 10:8), and declared all things to us through His name.

Inherited authority

Now that we know where the source comes from, I want to share with you how you can inherit this authority of Jesus Christ in your daily life and in spiritual warfare.

When you begin to spend time in your word and in solitude with the Lord, you will begin to resemble His character. All His authority is in His character, for His character is LOVE.

Love cast out all fear and covers a multitude of sins. (1 John 4:18, 1 Peter 4:8) When we saturate ourselves in His word which is all His power & Authority we are saturating ourselves in the power that cast away all demonic influence in our lives and those around us by the living word of God.

To walk into a battlefield without first inheriting your authority from Jesus Christ is to walk in blindness and confusion. You must know the word of God and walk in the Spirit of God, being obedient to whatever the Holy Spirit of God directs you to do in warfare.

Your inherited authority can only come from the word of God and your saturation in the word, this yields obedience in our lives.

There are many people who will practice what they have practiced when it comes to warfare. The problem with this is that they are practicing by habit and not by the knowledge and discernment of the Holy Spirit. We must be doers of His word and obedient to His Spirit in all cases of warfare, including in our prayer lives.

“To inherit His authority is to be obedient to the word of God”

Inherited Prayer

There is an inheritance of prayer that we have been given as children of God, it is inherited to us as heirs to the throne of God in Jesus Christ.

Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Romans 8:26-27

We have inherited the gift of having the Holy Spirit intercede on our behalf for us before the Lord. We do not know what we ought to pray in times of warfare but the Spirit of God does.

When we are in warfare, it is important to take time to allow the Holy Spirit to speak on our behalf.

Allow Him residence in your worship and time. Do not forsake the Holy Spirit’s groaning for they are utterances of the will of God in our lives.

There are moments of warfare where the most powerful kind of warfare I have ever encountered is sitting quietly and listening to the Lord and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak into the situation or the atmosphere.

This type of warfare is truly partnering with God’s will in our lives and has all the power and authority to release us from all bondages in our lives and those around us.

With our inherited authority & prayer we are able to withstand and conquer every spiritual battle we face. But spending time saturating yourself in God’s word and in His presence will yield to the obedience of the Holy Spirit and in this is our inherited gift of God with all power and authority.

Take time in prayer and silence before the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to have a residence in your time with God. Make it a habit to pray in the Spirit rather than pray by the spirit man.

I want to end this with a precious quote of mine regarding Jesus Christ and getting to know Him!

The bible is the breath of Jesus Christ, breathing into your very soul and transforming and molding the image of who you are into Himself, it is the fulfillment of that very longing you have always had in your heart, it is every moment you have ever desired, in every word, the beauty and essence of your every hearts desire is in the word, and the word is Jesus Christ.
