Action to Obedience: taking God at his prophetic word

I want to talk about the prophet Samuel today and his action of obedience when the Lord speaks to him. I want to start right away and not waste your time!

In the book of 1 Samuel chapters 9-10, you will read that God spoke to Samuel and stated the following:

“Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander over My people Israel that he may save My people from the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon My people because their cry has come to Me.”

Just this prophetic word alone from God caused action in Samuel and he began to move in the physical realm to prepare for what was already happening in the spiritual realm.

I won’t put all the scriptures below, just the steps that He took with the scripture references, but I do hope this makes you hungry to open your word and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you too.

Samuel’s Action to Obedience

  1. Available to receive prophecy: 1 Samuel 9:17
  2. Boldy speaking with authority without doubting: 1 Samuel 9:19-20
  3. Preparation for prophecy: 1 Samuel 9:22
  4. Set things aside for prophecy: 1 Samuel 9:23-24
  5. Patiently resting in the prophetic timing: 1 Samuel 25-27
  6. Being prepared for the fulfillment of prophecy: 1 Samuel 10:1
  7. Expressing prophecy to completion: 1 Samuel 10:3-8

When you look at the list above that describes how Samuel responded to the voice of God it is easy to see Action to Obedience. I will briefly break these down below!

1. Available to receive

Are you setting your day up to receive the prophecy of the Lord? How would this look and what can you do today to bring Actioin to Obedience when it comes to the prophecy in your own life? Are you even available in your spiritual obedience to receive a prophecy from the Lord and hear His word accurately with discernment? (Check out “The voice of God” to learn how to accurately hear and discern the voice of God)

The word of the Lord came to Samuel and he was instantly ready to receive what was needed for the prophecy of the Lord.

Is there a word from God that should put you into a state of Action and Receiving?

2. Boldly Speaking without doubt

When the Lord calls you to speak to something that He has previously prophesied, are you bold and doing so without wavering or doubting the words of the Lord?

Samuel spoke boldly to Saul once the Lord informed him it was him of whom He spoke. Samuel did not question or use his own judgment against Saul and doubt in his mind the prophecy over Saul.

Instead, Samuel took God at His word and began speaking boldly about the next moves of prophecy in Saul’s life. #obedience

3. Preparation

Are you preparing yourself for the prophecy set before you? As Samuel knew what was fitting for a commander of Israel, so he did. Are you prepared spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally for this prophetic word to come to pass in your life?

Samuel did not waste time, He used his time wisely and began preparing what was needed for the prophecy. What areas in your life do you see a prophecy of the Lord and can begin moving in action in prayer and fasting for God to prepare your heart for the prophecy?

4. Set things aside

Are you setting areas of your life aside specific to prophesy? Such as your time? Are you devoting your time and setting the Word and Prayer as a top priority and setting the best time for God and not leaving him the scrap pieces of time in your day? Are you truly devoted to Him or what you receive from Him?

As mentioned above, setting time aside to saturate yourself in God’s presence in the stillness of who He is will prepare your heart. But you must make choices each day and set things aside and not rush them when it is not yet time. As hard as that may be, just practice being still and waiting on the Lord.

5. Patiently waiting on Prophetic Timing

Are you being patient in the timing that God has ordained that pertains to the prophecy foretold? Are there any areas of your life that you know you have rushed or had your workings in to try and bring about the word of God in your life yourself?

When it comes to seeing something God has spoken over your life and then having to wait and wonder how many years or decades will it come to pass. We need to remember that all prophecy is for the glory of God, not for the glory or benefit of us entirely!

We are just a benefactor of His goodness in the prophecy. So never rush God, just be patient and allow Him to work on your heart in the meantime.

6. Preparing for the Fulfillment

Preparing for fulfillment and preparing to receive the prophecy are two separate things. Are you lining up your spiritual walk with the Word and focusing on what the Lord has for you in the season of prophecy?

Samuel brought a flask of anointing oil with them the next day of their journey because His focus was on the fulfillment of God’s prophecy and Samuel knew what was needed to complete the fulfillment.

When we fill ourselves with the Word of God it is as if an anointing of oil runs from every word that proceeds from our mouth. All prophecy needs the words of God and the Lord directs by His word the fulfillment of His prophecy.

Are you preparing yourself for the prophetic season God is about to have you walk into? Are you subjecting your heart openly before the courtrooms of the One True God and asking Him to remove any boundaries or barriers you have set up in your heart that would hinder your next prophetic season?

Are you seeking Him to deliver you and establish you in areas to prepare you for the next season of prophecy in your life or are you just “waiting”?

7. Expressing prophecy to completion

Once the prophecy for making Saul Commander by the anointing of the oil was completed, there is now another step of prophecy that expresses the completion in steps of action. Samuel then gave directions and instructions to Saul that were very important in ensuring that the prophecy was brought to full completion for himself and God’s people. Saul in turn took Action to Obedience in this prophecy to foresee it come to completion.

Once we begin to see God’s prophetic word coming to pass in our lives, there may be further action that is needed through our obedience to God’s word. Sometimes God does not release the full prophetic word until it is being done with Action to Obedience.

Samuel was obedient to seeing God’s word fulfilled and completed and then the Lord gave Samuel further instructions and directions!

There are times in our life we need to always be listening and waiting on the Lord in silence so that we can hear what steps or actions He has for us next, even in the season of prophetic fulfillment.

Many people bask in the new season or prophetic promise God has declared over their lives and miss out on further steps God is speaking about during that season of receiving. Be sure you are listening to God and still meditating on His word and seeking Him even when we are in a season of receiving His harvest promises!

Applying Action to Obedience

There are many parts to seeing prophecy unfold before our eyes and lives. God’s ways are so magnificent and He truly is a God of detail and you can see that in this story.

It is easy to receive a prophecy over yourself or a loved one and then sit around and wait for it to come to pass. But we need to remember that God is watchful over His word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12)

When God speaks there is power with His words, and that power of prophecy begins the moment it leaves the Father’s heart. There are things in the spiritual realm at work on behalf of every prophecy sent by God and we are to align our authority with that of God’s word to align with God’s prophecies.

I do hope this blog post was to the point and short enough for you to get stirred up to good works and cause you to open your word and continue looking into what God is speaking to you about this scripture!

Be blessed and thank you for supporting and staying connected to Kingdom Habitation!
