How to hide in the fortress of God and find peace

Are you overwhelmed with the duties and cares of being a wife and cannot seem to find that place of peace in your life?  Are you still believing the world when they say “that is just what a wife does, welcome to being a wife/mom?”

If so then perhaps you need a place to go hide and retreat from all of this wife and mom work!  Today we will be talking about that perfect place for you to hide, and I don’t mean in the bathroom or closet just so you can get your sanity, I am going to be talking about that place that will produce fruit in you in such a way that it will transform you into the wife God intended you to be!

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.    1 Peter 3:4 KJV

Rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious the sight of God.    1 Peter 3:4 NKJV

I want to bring to your attention this scripture above, and I first want to say that I understand in 1 Peter 3:3 it talks of adorning oneself in such a way and then it goes to this scripture, but I assure you what you wear on the outside is not what we are going to be talking about today! It is rather what you wear on your heart on the inside!  I wanted to put both King James, and New King James versions up there for you so that we can get a clear picture of this.  I am going to take this scripture and probably start off in the middle of this scripture, but it will help you to understand what I am trying to break down and explain better!

Meek & Quiet Spirit:

Today we have stripped the elegance of this word to something meaningless and weak. But that is the complete opposite of what this word truly means, and it is something to truly be desired. Here is a link to dive deeper into the meaning of the word along with scripture Meekness  (I do love and I give credit to all info on this word to them!) Meekness does not mean weak, it actually means those who are strong and have been placed in a weak position but yet do not give up but persevere through it, it is truly an inward calming of acceptance of God’s will in your life.   When this word is taken in the sense to animals, it still works on our favor, see the word meek for a wild animal means it has been tamed, it does not mean it has lost its strength or their character as an animal (think of a fierce lion) but it means that they have tamed the destructive behavior that would cause them to live out of peace with others.   To be meek is a great and desirable character trait to have in our hearts, even Jesus is described as being meek-

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls”  Matthew 11:29 KJV
“Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.”  Matthew 21:5 KJV

The reason I wanted to bring all this up about Jesus being meek, is because when the scripture tells us to let it be a meek and quiet spirit in the hidden man of the heart, we are being referenced to how Jesus Christ was and how He responded to things around Him.   For instance in every part of the bible no matter what He went through He was always quiet in spirit and loving in action/words, He never just spoke His thoughts but He always spoke what He heard the Father speak. (John 12:49)

As wives, we are to adorn ourselves with this beautiful character trait in our hearts and to adorn ourselves in such a way that we are meek and quiet in spirit, for this is precious in the sight of God. Why is it precious to God? Because we are obeying God in doing this because the word of God says that we are to imitate Christ, and Christ was meek and lowly in spirit and when we imitate Christ in this way we are obeying what God’s word tells us to do.  So no matter what is going on around you and the chaos that you may be going through when you have a meek and quiet spirit you are able to stay calm and put all your trust in God and continue to walk out in HIS will and not your own.  And I know that in such circumstances it is easy for us to take the control of the situation and want to handle it our way to fix the situation and most importantly try to control how we feel about the situation.  But in having a meek and quiet spirit as a wife of the kingdom of God, we are to be submitting ALL to God, trusting and knowing that He will take care of us because we can safely hide in Him.  This moves us right along to “Hidden person of the Heart” again I did say we would go backward in this, but I appreciate you hanging in there with me!

Hidden person of the heart:

Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word  Psalm 119:114
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.  Psalm 27:5
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.  Psalm 31:20

When I read these scriptures above and then connect them with my adornment being a hidden man of my heart, what I gather from this that the Lord is showing me is that it is not just a statement but rather instead, it is meaning that in our hearts we truly know where to go in times of trouble, that in our hearts we are so hidden in Christ that all of our trust is solely relying on God as we have become hidden so deeply in his secret tabernacle.  When we begin to truly hide our hearts in the tabernacle of God we are allowing ourselves the greatest blessing of all as wives.  Not only are we fully relying on the control of God in our lives to handle the situations around us, but we begin to walk out our true calling as wifes the way God intended wives to be.  Not to mention the honor and reverence we are allowing to be given to our husbands when we are hidden in God, you see when we are so hidden in God that we no longer need to be in control of every single situation of our lives and our homes, this allows the trust to fall on God and not our husbands, therefore relinquishing the great expectations we put on our husbands, and allowing them freely to be the head of your household that God intended for him to be.

Wrap it up to Go!

Becoming a kingdom wife means to become more like Christ Jesus, and in doing so we will become the wife that God had intended us to be for our husbands.  God had intentions when he created marriage, and over the years with each generation, we have strayed so far from the intentions of what marriage truly is in God’s eyes.  As Kingdom Wives, we must get back to the intentions that God has created for us.  If we think it is too hard to become a submissive wife or a biblical wife in the sense that God intended for us, I will be bold here when I say that this is only because of your lack of relationship with God and your lack of trust in God.  When we as wives begin to truly dive into our relationship with the Lord and put this first in all we do as the highest priority, our marriage and duties as a wife and mom will become natural and organic.  There will be no struggle in it, because there will be no struggle in US, we will be so hidden in the secret tabernacle of God that everything that we will come across in our life will be handed over to our Father in heaven while we get to maintain a meek and quiet spirit through and in  the circumstances we are facing.  But we must first learn to hide in the tabernacle of God, put all your trust in God, give God your all in everything you do throughout your day and rely solely on HIM to have control over your life and over your husband and you will find that the stress and load you are caring when trying to do this all, will be lifted from you.   And you will begin to be the wife that God intended for you to be, see God did not intend for wives to carry the burden of the family or household.  We are not designed to carry such things, God is.  Even our husbands when following the Lord are not designed to carry such burdens only God is and it is  in giving over our trust to God as wives and husbands included, that HE WILL carry such things in our lives that so we are able to freely live out our calling and our intended positions as wifes and find out the glory and beauty of being a wife.

There is a peace in hiding in God’s tabernacle, and it will take practice as we find this hiding place and for each one of us it may be different but I assure you that it is all based on trusting God and seeking Him daily in our lives and the more you seek Him out, the more you will begin to trust Him and actually desire to be in the dwelling of His tabernacle because this hiding place will become very familiar for you.  You will get to a place once you begin to know that you are in the hiding place of God, that when you step out of it, you will feel it in your spirit and in your heart.  Almost like this feeling of chaos as if you can feel that the peace has left your heart if that makes sense? The moment you feel yourself stepping out of the hiding place of God it is so important to step back into the hiding place before you become numb to even notice that you are out of place with God.   This is dangerous grounds ladies, I know first hand!

Ladies, I will be honest with you and say that I too am practicing this and it is a daily walk for me to surrender myself to God and retreat all my cares into His hiding place. But I know that when I do this, I feel so complete as a wife and as a woman of God, I feel as though I have finally found out who I am to be when I am hiding in the secret tabernacle of God! And I urge you all to do this, it is so important as wives and daughters of God to hide in His tabernacle so that we can bear the fruit of having a meek and quiet spirit.   If you are truly seeking to find out how to be a wife that God intended you to be, we must find ourselves hidden in Christ and in the tabernacle of God and through this so many blessings will flow from this I promise!

Do you have any tips or ideas on how to hide in the tabernacle of God or how to maintain a meek and quiet spirit once we have obtained it? If so please comment below and share with other kingdom wives and daughters!

  1. I love that you talked about kingdom marriage. My husband and I did the Tony Evans study with our couple’s group. It was so enlightening and full of treasures for marriages. You are so right, we wives have strayed away from what God intended us to be. We definitely need to return to being kingdom wives. Blessings!

  2. […] Who is Kingdom Daughter?  I know that I have not written a lot about my personal life here in my blogs, and that is because I have dedicated this blog to God and whatever God wants.  But funny to say, God has recently been telling me to write about myself for the last two weeks and so I have decided to obey Him!  I have kept names and towns disclosed for privacy purposes, but I have before you, the story of my life and how I came to be Kingdom Daughter of Denver Colorado!  I began writing this and had finished and was happy, only to realize that I had 8 large sections and knowing that this could not possibly be placed in one blog I decided to do chapters instead! I do hope that you enjoy my writing as I have tried to do my best to include main details to get you involved in the story, but know that many things may or have been left out either on purpose or by accident! I will be posting these pretty close to each other so that you can read them in sequence.  And if you have not gotten caught up with the most recent posting of my blog you can do so here! Enjoy!  Becoming a Kingdom Wife: Part 3- Your hiding place […]
