How strongholds affect your state of mind

When we begin to focus on the problem and not on God we are allowing our minds to be in the state of madness and allowing our situation in the environment of a cave and here is why.

Good afternoon my dear followers, today I was not planning on posting anything but just working on previous things God had already given me so that when I am ready to post those ones I would have them all ready to go!   However, God actually took me on a different path and led me to something today and I felt led in my Spirit to publish this today.  I hope you enjoy this reading and I do hope it touches a part of your heart that God is trying to speak to.   With Love & Hugs-  Kingdom Daughter!

First I urge you to pick up your word and read the whole scripture of 1 Samuel 22 so that you will fully understand what was going on in David’s life at this time and put yourself in his sandals!

What I want you to see here is at this time King David’s season of his life was not so great, in 1 Samuel 22 you will see that King David ran to escape King Saul in a cave right after he pretended madness scratching on the doors of the gate and letting his saliva fall down on his beard (1 Samuel 21:12-13).   You can also read 1 Samuel 21 if you need to get caught up!

Have you ever been in such a season in your life that you literally pretended madness just to escape something and then ran to a cave for shelter?    I mean I understand that we do not have someone seeking after us to kill us… or do we?

The answer to both the questions above is Yes!  Yes, you have played madness to escape something and yes you have run to a cave once or twice in your life for shelter! And YES you do have someone after you whose main desire is to kill, steal and destroy you and everything in your household including your descendants.  Allow me to explain why you have in your lifetime been just like King David even in his madness!

When you give in to fear and anxiety about your situations you are doing exactly what King David did here in 1 Samuel.   (Now please don’t get me wrong I totally understand that King David was running for his life, and that is way different than issues we face today, but what I am looking at here is not the issue but what is in the “heart” of the issue, so please follow along with me!)

King Davids heart was very much troubled and full of fear and anxiety, he did have his moment of madness and escaping into his own shelter of an environment which we all tend to do the moment we hear devastating news or are going through some pretty rough things in life.  When we are suddenly confronted with troubles and instantly gravitate our thoughts to worry, fear and anxiety instead of our focus on God, we for a brief period of time begin to play madness and place ourselves in the environment of a dark musty cave.

“When we begin to focus on the problem and not on God we are allowing our minds to be in the state of madness and allowing our situation in the environment of a cave.”

I like the definition and synonyms of this word because it makes the picture so much clearer, so please allow me to elaborate on this word a little more!  Madness means a state of being mentally ill, but it also means instability, extremely foolish behavior, state of frenzied or chaotic activity (behavior or character), turmoil, disorder.

Now with the Madness part more defined, can you see a clearer picture of exactly how in our lives sometimes we act “mad” when we encounter problems in our life?  I sure can, because I can humbly admit that I have been unstable in my thoughts and emotions during a crisis and also I have made some pretty foolish decisions with my behavior and not to mention that my character was very frenzied and far from the character that God calls us to be in.  Also during this time, I have definitely felt turmoil in my heart and complete disorder in my life during a crisis.  I am sure you can agree with me when I say that we are not different than King David who is drooling on himself and scratching at the gate… right!!!

Now, what about the cave part? You may wonder how do we end up putting ourselves in a cave-like environment like King David did?   Let’s look at 1 Samuel 22:5

Now the prophet Gad said to David “Do not stay in the stronghold; depart, and go the land of Judah.”    1 Samuel 22:5

See the Prophet Gad did not address his dwelling place as a “cave” but as a “stronghold.”   The prophet Gad was definitely sent by God, as if it were God telling David “Do not shut yourself off from your people, do not conceal yourself here in this madness (again refer to what the madness means above)  And sometimes we ourselves when being in the state of madness during a period of time will end up in a stronghold and God is calling us out of this stronghold.  And when the prophet Gad told David to “Go to the land of Judah” again this was God telling David “Go, do not stay in your stronghold but press on, go forward in faith, wisdom, and courage.  Get out of the stronghold you are in and move forward putting your trust in me.” (“What’s interesting is that the prophet Gad was mentioned herein scripture for the first time and then not again until David had come to the throne, is not God so good!”)

When we encounter a crisis in our life and this could be different for each person, one is not bigger than the other because in God’s hands they are all small and already taken care of I might add! But when we do encounter times in our life where we are going mad and in a stronghold God is calling us out of this stronghold and to a mind of peace and stability, a mind that cannot be shaken.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John: 14:28

He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken

Psalm 62:2 (A psalm of David himself)

If you are facing a stronghold and going mad right now in an area of your life, I want you to know that God is calling you out of this stronghold, and he wants you to step out in faith and lean on his understanding.  Do not be fearful or full of anxiety in your situation, know that your God has already taken care of the situation long before you even encountered it.  Just lean in on him, and soak in his love and sing praises to the Lord like David did in the dwelling of his stronghold and seek after God diligently, so much so that you are seeking more of Him and more of his praises then you are giving in to worry, fear, and anxiety.

Oh God, You are my God; early will i seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.  So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.  Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.  This I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.   Mysould shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.  Because You have been my help, therefore in teh shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.   My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.          Psalm 63:1-8

See these psalms were actually written by King David while in his stronghold, he did cry out to God for help, but as you can see he gave God more praise and honor then he did give God the list of worries, fears, and anxieties he had been dealing with!

God is calling us to sing his praises and to have a mind of peace even in the mist of our stronghold and madness!  Let go of all the madness of the world (the worry, fear, and lies which all come from Satan, to begin with) and give them to God.

As I like to put it in my own way of explanation “Write all your fears, anxieties and troubles down on a scroll, roll it up then seal it with a seal of Faith and lay it at God’s feet… now walk away in faith knowing that he is not going to be blind to the fact that you just laid something at His feet, by the time you even begin to walk away He has already picked up the scroll and handled the situation 100% for you, Praise God! He is so Good!”

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

My dear sisters in Christ, God is calling you out of your stronghold, he is calling you out of your daily madness.  But he needs you to go and to move forward with Praise on your lips and a song in your heart, knowing in faith that He has taken care of your situation already, but He does not like to see His children still sitting in their cave (stronghold) and going mad, he wants to see you rejoicing for the victory that is to surely to come!

I pray these messages to reach whomever it was that God wanted to reach out too, I know that it has surely reminded me that no matter what I will rejoice and praise His wonderful name!   Have a great day today ladies, I look forward to seeing what else God has in store for us soon!

  1. I was just thinking about this week, the importance of “taking captive every thought”..the importance of guarding our minds…the Bible talk so much about this.

  2. You have no idea how much this has helped me! Not only was I in the cave….weeping, I was digging in the ground! My life is in pieces right now….and I have given “lip service” to trusting Him and I have laid it down, only tomoick it back up again! And I do mean pieces……many, many pieces! But He has shown me long a go (actual vision) that I am the daughter of the King….and told me to never forget it (tears now…bit it seems I had forgotten). So much darkness and no idea what my future holds….BUT I remember WHO holds it & my position in Him!!! To God be the glory!!! Forgive me Father of my unbelief …..in the way of worry and anxiety! I pick up my crown that I let slip….and grab my sword!

Everything that comes against us from the enemy is only a lie (a mirage). What we hold is truth and power through the blood of Jesus! Hallelujah! Pick up your sword and fight this battle, remember we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness! You got this girl!!! 🙂
